Aphasia

They bubble up inside me
every word I’ve ever known.
Mixing in a current passable to most.
They run across my mind
and down to my tongue
tangling with one another
a puzzle impossible to solve.
The words lose their letters
falling from their form,
lost, forever.
The knots tighten
as my tongue begins to move
tasting rust instead of meaning.
Forgotten and rotten and gone.
